Grow Me … in the making

It was a gorgeous sunny day in northwest Mississippi. I was a novice real estate investor and had just sold my first investment home. Thrilled was too small of a word to describe how I felt when the funds hit my bank on that ridiculously sticky day in 2006. I summoned the spirit of Jerry McGuire, rolled down my windows, and started jamming to Tom Petty’s Free Falling. Like Jerry, I did not know all the words, but belting out the “free fallin” refrain felt like the American dream personified.

Real estate investing was not my “day job,” but the smell of potential and excitement that I felt as a first-time PAID real estate investor was freeing. But…I am a calculated risk-taker. And as the days passed, the idea of giving up my steady income sources as a real estate agent and college administrator forced Tom Petty into the back seat.

I continued to scratch the investment itch with several properties over the years, but there was a particular day when I realized the gravity of being a good investor. I sold a great little house to a couple that were both first time buyers. A week later I saw an excavator in their front yard. I was SICK! All of the time and love poured into the house, and I missed an issue with the sewer.

After that experience, I decided that buying dumpy houses and making them super cute was not enough. So while still working full time as the CEO for a non-profit, I continued to learn building science principles and soak up everything I could learn about major housing components. I walked roofs, stalked my plumber when he changed out water heaters and tested water pressure. I changed furnace filters, studied building codes, and OH…I also found out that Knob and Tube wasn’t an English rock band from the 80’s.

In 2023, I made my way into the Field Services industry, and started combining my love for real estate with the business of property inspections. Becoming a licensed Home Inspector was a logical next step. After decades of kicking the tires in the real estate industry, I decided to do what I love to do.

I love getting up every day and spending time with people and their homes. I love hearing the stories of the sewing rooms turned home office. I love being a resource for homeowners who want and need help managing their biggest and most important asset. As an inspector I provide buyers and sellers with invaluable information about the safety and function of the home. As an investor, I help people who need a way out. My job provides me opportunities to improve the local economy and make our homes safer, better functioning, and more beautiful than ever.

At 52, I have never been more excited to get up and get to work. I cannot wait to meet you and hear your stories. YOU are my WHY story!
